St. Francis College Otukpo needs the support of its alumni so that the college can provide an environment that is conducive for learning, to enable the students achieve their potentials.
To support the college please contact the principal, Fr. Augustine Adah Ochai on +234 (0) 80 6263 7615 or fadaadahoyine@gmail.com.
The 12 areas where the college needs the support of old boys are:
Classroom Blocks
All the classrooms in the college require renovation; from the roofs, walls, doors, windows, floors to furniture.
Modern Teaching Aids
Provision of modern teaching aids such as projectors in our laboratories and auditorium.
Scholarship Awards
We would like olds boys to sponsor two (2) scholarship awards to motivate and show students that hard work and discipline breed success. These scholarships will be awarded to:
- Academically sound but indigent students
- Best graduating final year students
Creative Arts Studio
The college would like to refurbish and modify the Arts Studio to improve the Arts curriculum and to provide the students with an enabling environment for self-expression through Arts.
Internet Connectivity
The college’s computer laboratory and computers are currently not linked to the internet; therefore, we need help with the set-up of a local LAN to create an internal network of computers and to also connect the college to the internet.
Revenue Generating Enterprise
The college needs help with setting up an income generating enterprise that would provide a revenue stream for the college. For example, St. Michael the Archangel Minor Seminary, Ochobo has a bakery, therefore, something along the line of a poultry etc. will be welcomed. Entrepreneurship workshop, Animal Husbandry & Agricultural Science Laboratory are part of our needs.
Sports Facilities
To restore the college’s past glory in sports, such as those achieved by the 1984/85 set, the college sports facilities need refurbishment, and the students need new equipment and kits for football, basketball, athletics, handball, tennis and badminton.
Water Reservoirs
Water has been a perennial challenge in the college therefore, we need more water reservoirs to enable us harvest water during rainy season. With the renovation of the hostels by Chief Godwin Obla, SAN, the proprietor has agreed to the digging of new reservoirs behind the hostel for harvesting of more water.
Chapel
The college Chapel, where Late Rev. Fr. Jospeh O’Neil conducted mass for decades, needs the following:
- Sacramentals and Lectionaries: Lectionaries are the sacred books from which readings are taken at liturgical celebrations. We are still using the old version of lectionaries. 22-Nov-23: This wish has been granted by Barrister Patrick Ameh.
- Chasubles: The college wishes to have customised chasubles with the picture of her patron saint – St. Francis of Assisi.
- Speakers: the chapel public address system needs speakers (we do not need a mixer or an amplifier).
- Lighting: the Chapel’s lighting system can be improved with better, brighter and more modern and fanciful bulbs that will enhance the aesthetics of the house of prayer.
- Painting: The walls of the Chapel are looking old and dirty and are in desperate need of TLC with new coat of paint (though some serious scraping of the several layers of the previous paint coatings will be required before any new painting is carried out).
- Chapel Flowers: The college will appreciate the donation of artificial flowers for the beautification of inside of the chapel sanctuary and natural flowers to create a bed outside and around the Chapel.
College Landscape
The beautification and landscaping of the college premises through the replacement of old trees will be a welcomed development. Currently, the college compound looks messy during during rainy season and this makes the students and staff to carry dirt on their feet when going into classrooms, hostels and the Chapel.
Staff Quarters
The living quarters of the tutors of the college are in dilapidated conditions and in need of substantial renovation. Providing the college staff with safe homes will enable them better inculcate knowledge into the students.
Non-Academic Staff
The college needs funds for the recruitment of more security personnel to patrol the college premises as well as hostel administrators and cooks to cater for the students.
